IET HotTopics event upcoming

Some months ago, I received an inquiry to present some thoughts on the Future Internet during an IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) HotTopics event. The announcement for the event can be found here.

The presentation will largely revolve around EIFFEL and the need for international collaboration in order to push forward activities around the Future Internet. I will also talk about BT’s involvement in recently granted Future Internet research activities. The event will be recorded and made available as a streaming download (more see on the webpages of the IET).

Important thing to note is that I’m not going to say anything around WiMax and LTE. This is part of the first session of the event and stands in no real relation to the second one. So don’t expect any great insight from my side into this debate.

More about EIFFEL

It has been quiet around EIFFEL for a while. The support action proposal was submitted in May 2007 under FP7 call 1, as reported earlier.

The good news is that the proposal was accepted by the evaluators in June with the highest marks of all submissions! Budget cuts have to be negotiated now so that the EIFFEL SA will hopefully soon start its work. It’s been an exciting ride so far and I hope that something good is going to come out of this exercise.

More on concrete next steps soon.
